How to Make a Little Bow - How to Make a Bow That Fits Your Draw

Making bows for wreaths, gifts and Christmas tree toppers is so easy, even for beginners. It is also a great way to reuse ribbons that aren’t quite long enough for their own purposes. You can use actual ribbons, paper or both.

The first step in learning how to make a little bow is to determine what size bow you need. A bow can only be flexed so far before it becomes unmanageable, and the proper draw length of your bow is important for safety reasons.

To measure your own draw length, you need to know how tall you are and what the length of your arms is (if any). You can use a ruler with a nock to mark these distances.

Once you have this information, you can get a bow that adjusts to fit your draw. The best part is, you don’t need any special tools to make this process happen!

Start by laying out all the pieces for your bow, and double the amount of ribbon you want to end up with. That way, you’ll have a length of ribbon that will be enough to create the largest loop. You’ll also need a piece of ribbon that’s just a bit shorter than the other loops, plus a length of ribbon for the tails.

Next, take all of these pieces together, and glue them to create a bow shape. It is best to do this from the back, so that you’ll have an evenly-shaped bow with all of the layers overlapping.

You should be able to see the bow starting to form in the center of the loops. This will be your anchor point, and it will help to keep the bow from slipping off your hand when you are holding it. Scrunch the center to add a bit of volume to the bow, and then secure the bow with floral wire or string to hold it in place.

Tie the ends of your bow into a knot and cut them in an angle or a V to give them a finished look. You can also fold them into a bow, or leave them untied to use later as the bow on your wreath!

Lastly, tuck the tails into the center of the bow, and tie them in place with a wire or string to keep them from falling out. This will give you a finished bow that looks like a professional bow.
